I began a modern apprenticeship with New Horizons Training and through interview secured a place at Freeman Hardy Willis. During my first year at the Basingstoke Town Centre branch I was participating in training at Basingstoke College of Technology on a City & Guilds NVQ course in Retail on a day release basis.
This lead to permanent full time employment with the shoe store upon passing my NVQ Level 2 in Retail course in 1994. I quickly rose to a position of responsibility and on occasion was running the shop without supervision.
