When I was six years old all my friends went to Boys Brigade and so I went along too because it seemed like the thing to do. However as they all left to pursue other interests it was I who kept going through my pre-teen and teenage years. I achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and in 1994 was awarded the Presidents' Badge, which is the highest achievement within the Boys Brigade badgework scheme. This incorporates the following awards:
- Leadership
- Adventure
- Community
- Interests
- Physical
When I returned to Basingstoke from Nottingham in 1996 I rejoined my friends at the 3rd Basingstoke Company in a volunteer member of staff role which I continue in to this day. The age group I work with is 11-18 and it can be a very demanding and stressful way to spend a Friday evening, but can also be very rewarding and satisfying when something you have taught is understood and appreciated by the boys.
See the X-Phils page of this website to learn more about a special Boys Brigade activity I have created for the boys.
This is the current website for 3rd Basingstoke Boys Brigade Company. In the near future I will be redesigning this website to bring a fresh look and new features for the boys in our company.
